Abstract

Harvesting the Atlantic salmon resource in Atlantic Canada (Figure 7.1) is widespread, although less so now than just a few years ago. People in all five eastern provinces, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, New Brunswick (NB), Nova Scotia (NS), and Prince Edward Island (PEI) (the latter three referred to collectively as the Maritime Provinces) participate. Major harvesters are the commercial and sport fishermen; lesser harvesters include native peoples, commercial fishermen taking other fish species and the poacher.
