Abstract

This field-based case is both descriptive and decision-oriented. In chronicling the approach Leon Shivamber, Harris Corporation’s vice president of Supply Chain Management and Operations, used to establish a set of financial benchmarks, the case is descriptive. Its ending requires students to use those benchmarks to draw conclusions about areas needing focus and action to potentially raise the company's financial results to an elite status. Harris Corporation is a $4 billion, publicly held company specializing in satellite communications, information systems, security-related technologies, and high-definition broadcast mediums. Although the company recently has experienced several good financial years, Shivamber is seeking ways to further elevate its financial performance through specific actions within his supply-chain group.
