Abstract

A single crystal of feldspar was deformed in a uniaxial rig at 1323–1553 K under constant stresses of 15–80 MPa. Creep data were fitted to the conventional power law equation, giving a stress exponent equal to unity and an activation energy of 164 kJ mol −1. The Newtonian creep behavior is attributed to the operation of Harper-Dorn creep. Evidence for Harper-Dorn creep in a polycrystal of feldspar is also found from a previous study.
