Abstract

Abstract The fact that TV has its own profile of formats, and that some of them have proved more attractive than others, calls upon the TV educationalist to master the medium's formats so as to use them to convey a desirable educational message which, if delivered by traditional or unattractive formats, could get lost. Different TV formats vary in degree of representationalism (Gomez, 1986). The representational character of TV is technology bound, but decisions about what to represent and how to do it are not. This paper pursues the features of popular TV formats and points to their peculiar qualities that have the potential to enhance educational TV.
