Abstract

An electric have good quality if the voltage and current waveform are pure sinusoidal, have difference phase each other 120 electrical degree and have frequency base 50 hertz. If not, one of causing that is harmonic present on the electrical voltage network. The electrical network contains sinusoidal waveform distortion of voltage and current are due to non linear load, one of that is variable speed drive. The harmonic which cause by variable speed drive disturb the electrical network, if over the limit standard which approving by IEEE 519-1992. The purpose of research is to know voltage and current harmonics (total harmonic distortion THDV and THDI) on electrical network as Variable speed drive 3 kW with induction motor 1.5 kW running 0 to 4.8 N/m torque. Variable speed drive has a current harmonics THDI 70.4% with no load and with load 4.8 N/m THDI 125%. By using of a passive filter or active filter, harmonics can be eliminated or reduced.
