Abstract

The purpose of this note is to report some preliminary results of (apparently) chaotic solutions found in the study of weak interactions among equatorial waves. Chaos is usually related to models in the classical turbulence limit, strong interactions (e.g., see Lee), it is interesting to find it also in the opposite limit, weak interactions. Meiss has also reported chaotic evolution for a system with a few resonant waves. The important questions of how is the chaos/order picture changed (1) by adding more modes to the model, and/or (2) for intermediate energies (such that neither the weak−nor the strong−interactions approximation is applicable), will not be addressed here.
