Abstract

Power quality of power systems is affected by extensive harmonics in an interconnected power system. It becomes essential to estimate the harmonic generated by non linear loads. Computations of this sort require suitable Harmonic State Estimation (HSE) techniques. Independent Component Analysis is an efficient method for HSE as it employs least information about the power system topology. Various ICA algorithms are used for HSE, of which COMBI (Combination of WASOBI and EFICA) is applied to a simple four bus model and is found to be more accurate than EFICA in terms of certain performance indices. The graphical investigation of the two algorithms with the actual harmonic current also points to the efficiency of COMBI algorithm over EFICA. It is proposed to implement the HSE problem on a smart grid emulator available in the laboratory.
