Abstract

Previous work, in which the method of harmonic linearization is used to obtain an approximate optimal control law for a second-order nonlinear state regulator problem, is inconsistent. This paper corrects the analysis and applies the new results to a Van der Pol system. It is shown that the method of harmonic linearization compares less favourably with other perturbation methods than was originally thought.
