Abstract

The paper presents a general model for the representation of a thyristor-controlled reactor (TCR) in the frequency domain. This model underlies the implementation of a Newton-Raphson procedure to determine the periodic steady state of the power system with fast convergence and high accuracy. The TCR model is used as a building block to represent more sophisticated power electronics apparatus such as the static VAr compensator (SVC) and the thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC).
