Abstract

A method to calculate the no-load losses of cage induction motors considering harmonic rotational electromagnetic fields is investigated. Not only harmonic iron losses of the stator and the rotor core but also harmonic copper losses of rotor cage are calculated using the nonlinear time-stepping finite element method. The result of the total loss calculated by the method agrees well with the experimental result. It is clarified that the iron losses of the core concentrate at the rotor surface and that the main loss of the rotor is eddy current loss.
