Abstract

ABSTRACTAcoustic Emission (AE) is sensitive to micro-mechanisms of deformation and fracture processes and can give indication prior to failure of a material. The parameters of the AE burst signals are correlated to the micro mechanics of damage and hence desired to be extracted in real-time. This paper proposes a hardware-based approach for extraction of AE signal parameters such as peak amplitude, RMS, AE count, event duration, and rise time, which reduces processing load of the microcontroller and signal processing time significantly. Multisim software is used for simulation of the hardware design and the results are presented in this paper.
