Abstract

In hydrodynamics the routes to turbulence and associated phenomena have become an important subject of theoretical and experimental investigation in recent years. Our investigations into this field were carried out in rotational Couette flow where the external parameters can be finely controlled. Theoretical models leading to strange attractors and period doubling are concerned with the non-linear coupling of different flow modes and the development of one single flow mode, respectively. Therefore it is desirable to obtain accurate information about the behaviour of particular flow modes as a function of boundary conditions. This paper reports some measurements concerning specific flow modes in rotational Couette flow using an online velocity correlation method.KeywordsCouette FlowVortex PairCritical Reynolds NumberVelocity CorrelationTaylor VortexThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
