Abstract

1. Polyacryl amide solution is a less severe quenchant than water. 2. Quenching of reinforcing steel in polyacryl amide solutions provides high values of the yield and tensile strengths and the elongation. 3. The optimum combination of mechanical properties and the maximum σ0.2/σt ratio are obtained in hardening in a 0.01–0.025% polyacryl amide solution. 4. The change in sample temperature with time depends upon the polyacryl amide concentration in the quenchant.
