Abstract

This paper presents a general formalism for hard photon production mechanisms in nuclear reactions at intermediate and low energies with projectiles ranging from nucleon to heavy‐ion. The mechanisms can be divided into three categories, namely the direct bremsstrahlung radiations, doorway mechanisms and statistical process. For each mechanism, its physical significance, experimental characteristics identifying the mechanism, calculations and comparison with experiments, as well as problems left over are outlined.
