Abstract

Synopsis A new genus of trabeculate dinoflagellates, Hapsidaulax , is described from the Middle Jurassic (Bathonian; pre-Discus Zone) of the Isle of Skye, Inverness-shire; it is characterised by a reflected tabulation entirely lacking cingular plate-equivalents and with seven precingular and six postcingular plates, a precingular archaeopyle being apparently developed. The single species currently assigned to this genus, H. margarethae sp. nov. , is described in detail and the variation in its morphology discussed. The stratigraphical and palaeontological significance of this new genus is discussed.
