Abstract

Haplomitrium hookeri (Sm.) Nees, the type species of Haplomitrium (Sm.) Nees is of great significance. The taxon is reported to be of rare occurrence. During the study of bryophytes of Uttarakhand, few plants of H. hookeri were collected from Mukteshwar in Kumaon Hills which shows extended distribution of the taxon in Indian subcontinent. Earlier the taxon was known from Garhwal hills only in Uttarakhand, western Himalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal in the eastern Himalaya. The plants from Kumaon region have been described and illustrated herewith.
