Abstract

Airports today require larger areas, even as towns expand into the regions surrounding the airports. Thus the population increases in noisy areas and the congestion of airport access roads grows. The noise problem must be taken into account when planning new residential settlements in the area of the airport. In regard to the access problem, several effective access roads are needed to connect the airport with the wide-spread municipal network of streets. An effective public transportation system independent from road traffic congestions is also needed. This system should be able to serve not only air passengers originating from the center of the town but also those originating from further regions. For this purpose, a link to an existing underground railway network would be of considerable economic and operational advantage.
