Abstract
The influential House of Commons Committee of Public Accounts has just published a report on handling clinical negligence claims in England (House of Commons, 2002). The report is well worth reading because it discusses clearly the problems of our clinical negligence system and what can be done to improve it. As nurses can often be the first people that patients turn to when they have a problem, it is important that they have some idea of the system that patients may have to negotiate.
