Abstract

With a wide theoretical scope and down-to-earth practical suggestions on the consultation process, this Handbook describes many different clinical situations, including consultations to agencies. It is a scholarly, general, and yet detailed guidance for the psychiatric consultation. It is often didactic, with explicit directions about procedures, techniques, possible dangers, and mistakes. As Henry Brosin states in his foreword, this volume becomes a true handbook, as it is called in the title, as well as a specialty text. There are sections on the fundamentals of the consultation process and useful chapters on diagnosis and management. There are also sections on the special aspects of consultations with surgeons, pediatricians, and community services. A teaching program is outlined in detail, as is a consultation liaison program.
