Abstract

This is indeed an excellent, concise handbook, presenting in capsule fashion the most important points of pediatric cardiology written by a most competent group of pediatric cardiologists. It is aimed at the general pediatrician and general practitioner. However, it can be most useful to internists and cardiac surgeons. It is divided into two parts. The first part deals with general considerations such as anatomy, embryology, genetics, hemodynamics, physical examination, electrocardiography, vectorcardiology, and x-ray films. This part also includes excellent chapters on congestive heart failure, and the selection of patients for catheterization and angiocardiography. The second part deals with specific entities; only important ones are presented. Included however are useful chapters on neurological disorders, connective tissue disorders, and brain abscess. There is a very fine table of differential diagnosis. The method of presentation is staccato and down to earth. Interesting little historical previews are given at the beginning of each special
