Abstract
Handbook of Pediatric Cardiology was written expressly as a guide for allied health students and practitioners who will participate in the care of infants and children with cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it was not designed for medical students, residents, and physicians who care for children. The directness of its approach, however, makes it usable for the medical student taking an elective in pediatric cardiology. The handbook is organized appropriately into a general cardiology introductory section that deals with the aspects of the anatomy, embryology, and genetics of congenital heart disease and follows with those clinical tools routinely used in the evaluation of infants and children with cardiac defects. The second section of the book deals with specific congenital heart defects. Special problems such as critical heart disease in the newborn, congestive heart failure, rheumatic fever, and endocarditis are dealt with in the third section of the handbook, while an overview of
