Abstract
Abstract Hand tools have been in use for almost a million years. Over the years, hand tools have become indispensable to humans as they are the primary means to extend the capabilities of the hand. In this chapter, the problems associated with the use of hand tools are reviewed. The guidelines for designing hand tools are provided. Effects of tool and worker factors influencing human force/ torque exertion capability with human powered non-impact hand tools are also discussed to assist designers in selecting or designing fastener devices.
