Abstract

(Int J Obstet Anesthesia. 2020;43:31–35) Current guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in pregnant women recommend hand placement on the lower half of the sternum, as this is an easily identifiable landmark. However, the heart is rotated during pregnancy and one study found the left ventricle (LV) was located under the sternum in only about half of cases. This study used transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) to investigate the displacement of the LV by the gravid uterus and left uterine displacement.
