Abstract

IntroductionUngueal psoriasis is observed in up to 80% of cases in patients with psoriasis and in 6% it is the only manifestation, being a predictor of greater severity and psoriatic arthritis. Ungueal clipping is a simple, inexpensive and rapid diagnostic technique that has proven valid in the diagnosis of various nail pathologies. Its usefulness in nail psoriasis is little studied. ObjectiveTo describe the histological findings present in the ungueal cut samples of patients with a diagnosis of psoriasis who consulted the Dermatology service of a referral hospital in Bogota D.C. in 2018. MethodsAn observational, prospective, case series type study was performed. Patients with a diagnosis of psoriasis were included, and sociodemographic, clinical and microscopic variables of the disease were described. Results48 patients with psoriasis entered the study, 50% were women; mean age was 48.1 years (SD 16 years). Plaque psoriasis was the most frequent clinical type with 52.1%, and only 14.6% presented psoriatic arthritis. The most frequent microscopic findings were subungual parakeratosis (91.7%), which was also present in samples from patients without clinically evident changes.
