Abstract

It is stated that for such studies as the location of impurity atoms. lattice disorder, or the lifetime of a nuclear reaction, using the channeling technique, it is important to know how the displacement of an atom from the atomic row affects the characteristic of the channeling profile. The results are presented of a comparison between the halfway-plane model (Lindhard, Mat. Fys. Medd. Dan. Vid. Selsk; 34:No. 14 (1965)) and the simple analytical treatment of the so-called continuum approximation for the yield of particles emitted from an atom off the lattice site. It is concluded that the continuum model can predict the displacement of the atom with reasonable accuracy if the displacement is not as large as r/sub o/ (the radius of the unit cell of the channel).
