Abstract

Abstract: Experiments in swine showed that the half‐life of trimethoprim was on an average 2 hours 15 minutes and the apparent volume of distribution was 1.4. In addition to glomerular filtration both active tubular secretion and back diffusion are involved in the renal handling of trimethoprim. The back diffusion is greatly influenced by the pH of the urine.
