Abstract

Throughout history, Aleppo has been the visiting place of important trade caravans, a cultural city on the pilgrimage route and where people from three monotheistic religions live. For this reason, communities with different religions and beliefs have created institutions where they live their own cultures. The presence of architectural works built in Aleppo reveals how important this city is. Kulliyes, mosques, lodges and zāwiyas, inns, baths, madrasas, hospitals, civil and military buildings, fountains, clock towers, tombs, train stations and thousands of residential architecture are some of them. In the intervening time, some of these works have been neglected and some have disappeared. Despite all this, Aleppo has managed to preserve its identity as a cultural city until today. Bayram Bābā Darwish Lodge, which is one of these works that is an important cultural heritage in the history of Aleppo and has a history of approximately 500 years, unfortunately became the victim of negligence and was demolished in 1982 during road widening works. In this article, the information obtained from various sources about the Bayram Bābā Darwish Lodge and the Bayram Bābā that gave its name here will be evaluated. In addition, important figures who hold the office of shaykh in the lodge and about whom information can be found will be discussed and examples of their works will be given.
