Abstract
Persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) is an anatomic variant of central veins, characterised by the persistence of a left-sided superior vena cava. Owing to the frequency of this anomaly, it is important for nephrologists to be aware of the potential perand post-procedure complications that can be experienced during catheterization in PLSVC patients. We report the case of a 45-year-old patient presenting a rare type II PLSVC, detected after right internal jugular catheterization for haemodialysis. This article reviews the most frequent and clinically relevant abnormalities related to PLSVC and discusses their implications in haemodialysis practice.
