Abstract
Thirty cases of canine parvovirus (CPV) infection were diagnosed during the study by a double antibody sandwich ELISA kit. The most common clinical signs observed were anorexia, bloody diarrhoea, vomiting and depression. Majority of the dogs were not vaccinated 22 (64.7%) against parvovirus. The common hematologic abnormalities observed were anaemia, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia. Anemia was of variable type in different cases with microcytic normochromic in 11/30 (36.66%), microcytic hypochromic in 10/30 (33.33%), normocytic normochromic in 5/30 (16.66%) and normocytic hypochromic in 4/30 (13.33%) cases.Leukopenia was observed in 14/30 (46.66%) cases and thrombocytopenia in 13/30 (43.33%) cases. There was significant increase in alanine aminotransferase (ALT), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and significant decrease in total bilirubin as compared to the control animals, whereas, decrease in bilirubin was observed in 23/30 (76.66%) cases and elevated ALT in 24/30 (80%) and elevated BUN in 21/30 (70%) cases.
