Abstract

The identification of problematic meson states as the members of the quark model q q nonets by using a hadronic resonance spectrum is discussed. The results favor the currently adopted q q assignments for the tensor and 1 3 F 4 J PC = 4 ++ meson nontes, and suggest a new q q assignments for the scalar and axial-vector nonets which favor the interpretation of the f 0(980), f 0(1710) and f 1(1510) mesons as non-q q objects. We also suggest that the 2 3S 1 1 2 (1 −) state should be identified with the K ∗ (1680) rather than K ∗ (1410) meson.
