Abstract

Results are reported from data accumulated by the ARGUS experiment, operating at around 10 GeV centre‐of‐mass energies in the DORIS II e+e− storage ring at DESY. A search for free quarks yields an improved upper limit for their production cross section. For the first time, the production of antideuterons is observed in e+e− annihilations. In radiative Υ(2S) decays three clearly resolved photon lines are observed corresponding to transitions to the 3PJ states with J=0,1 and 2 of the bb̄ system. The observation of the decay D0 → K0sφ with a branching ratio BR(D0 → K̄0φ)=(0.99±0.32±0.17) % represents the first direct evidence for flavor annihilation by W exchange in charmed particle decays. A fit to the electron spectrum from semi‐leptonic B meson decays provides a preliminary upper limit for the ratio of the Kobayashi‐Maskawa matrix elements ‖ Vbu ‖ / ‖Vbc ‖ of 0.14 (90% confidence level). A sample of about 1500 decays in the channel τ− → π+π−π+ντ gives evidence for A1 production at a 3π mass around 1100 MeV/c2. A preliminary upper limit for the mass of the tau neutrino of 70 MeV/c2 at the 95% confidence level is derived.
