Abstract
Multiplicity distributions in lepton and hadron induced processes are compared according to the dual model. It is indicated that the effect of the chain energy spread in hadron processes is important. After including this effect and correcting for the diffractive component the model is shown to explain the large values of dispersion of multiplicity distribution in pp data.
