Abstract

Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE Advanced) has adopted Single-Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SCFDMA) for uplink transmission due to its lower Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) compared to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA). However, the PAPR is still an issue for the SCFDMA scheme. In this paper, we analyze the PAPR of pulse shaped SCFDMA systems and propose a modified scheme which is termed as “Hadamard SCFDMA,” for reduction in PAPR of pulse shaped signals. We furthermore investigate the Symbol Error Rate (SER) performance of both SCFDMA and the proposed Hadamard SCFDMA system. The results showed that the Hadamard SCFDMA scheme not only achieved PAPR reduction but also enjoyed lower complexity and SER enhancement.
