Following the publication of the above article, the authors have recognized that errors were made in pages 487-490 of the Results and discussion section. Citations of and were omitted. On page 487-488, 4th paragraph, sentences 4-6 should read: “The four oxygen regimes affected the pools of in the overlying water during the incubation period differently (Fig. 1). Both oscillating and anoxic conditions resulted in removal during the first period of the incubation, but under constantly oxic conditions we observed relatively higher concentrations than in the other treatments suggesting the presence of ammonia oxidation.
