Abstract
Residence and Family Organization in XVIIth—XIXth Century Bourgogne. There is a relationship between types of dwelling and family structure. Joint family households in South-East Bourgogne generally inhabited «maisons-blocs» with «chauffoir» and farm buildings spreading around a common farm-yard while multiple conjugal family units in Auxois are connected with simple forms of dwelling : «farmhouse» that grow or divide in accordance with economic conditions and the developmental cycle of peasant households. The case of the so-called Manière joint family which was traditionally supposed to occupy farm buildings typical of this kind of household organization proves that such a family structure was not the standard in the Middle-East of the country.
