Abstract
The objectives of the research were to determine the level of teachers' mathematical skills and understand the perspectives of how they develop mathematical competencies in students. We quantitatively surveyed 48 math teachers, using a mixed approach to measure their math teaching expertise in four dimensions: communication, representation, symbol handling, and problem solving. Qualitative research was conducted with 13 teachers using an interview questionnaire. The teachers showcased outstanding math proficiency, specifically in problem-solving, mathematical modeling, and the utilization of ICT. The forms frequently employed by teachers for developing students' mathematical competencies were meaningful problem situations, problem-solving approach, and mathematical argumentation.
