Abstract

The standard H2 optimal control problem is interpreted as a pole placement design. As a consequence, the optimal controller transfer matrix can be obtained by solving a single one-sided polynomial matrix equation, two spectral factorizations, and three matrix fraction conversions. This makes an attractive alternative to the existing solutions. Examples are included to illustrate the design procedure using Matlab Polynomial Toolbox.
