Abstract

This paper describes a robust control design method of Hybrid Mass Damper (HMD) system for an actual suspension bridge tower under construction. Because the dynamics of a tower considerably changes as the construction stage proceeds day by day, a robust controller is desirable in order to control safely and save the time of modifying the controller. Parameter fluctuations generated by the structural change of the tower are explicitly considered into the modeling process, and H∞ constant scaling method is applied. By using this method, a controller is designed which can be applied from the step of completion of the tower construction work until the final step of cable hanging work. The effectiveness of this controller is proved by performing a series of analytical and experimental tests for 2P tower of the KURUSHIMA BRIDGE.
