Abstract

William Harvey (1578–1657), a physician who discovered the circulation of the blood, was born on 1 April 1578 in Folkestone, Kent. He was educated from 1588 at the King's School, Canterbury, and from 1593 at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he was supported by a scholarship stipulating the study of medicine. He graduated BA in 1597, and remained in Cambridge until 1599.
