Abstract

The stability of the chiral spin state, which was proposed for the two-dimensional frustrated antiferromagnet on the square lattice, is critically examined by taking the local constraint into account. It is shown that the chiral spin state is relatively high in energy, suggesting it to be unstable. The instability of the flux state against the antiferromagnetic order is also demonstrated in this connection.
