Abstract

Background and aims Reduced muscle strength, measured by hand grip strength (HGS), is a widely available proxy for muscle function. HGS is associated with chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Changes in gut microbial diversity and composition are associated with metabolic diseases, skeletal and muscle function. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of absolute HGS tertiles related to T2DM and changes in the gut microbiome.
