Abstract

As a North American feminist theologian, I am increasingly concerned about the divisive effects on human communities of widespread social injustices exacerbated by the "new world disorder") of the late twentieth century. In reflecting on what is fundamentally a soteriological question, I have been inspired and challenged by Latin American liberation theology, and by the work of Gustavo Gutierrez in particular. While North American and Latin American realities differ in significant ways, and one cannot import the whole of Latin American liberation theology, in my view there continue to be important continuities and connections. A soteriology of communion provides a relevant framework for addressing them.
