Abstract

We present a fragment from an extended interview with Krzysztof Wojciechowski, one of the most original Polish filmmakers, which was conducted in May 2021 by Piotr Marecki and Artur Sobiela. The selected fragment of the conversation relates to two productions: the documentary Wyszedł w jasny, pogodny dzień (1971) and the director’s first full-length film, Kochajmy się (1974). Topics covered in the interview include the artist’s interest in the countryside and folk imaginary and their confrontation with the trials of modernization as well as the symbiosis between man and nature, which could still be observed in the era the movies were shot. Other issues discussed pertained to Wojciechowski’s methods for working with non-professional actors and his emphasis bringing out the natural, vernacular language of the characters in both films.
