Abstract

Gun ownership has remained a topic of ardent debate, particularly in the wake of a series of national tragedies relating to the use of firearms. The authors of this study sought to examine a possible relationship between gun ownership and firearm-related deaths across 27 developed countries. Data on gun ownership were attained from the Small Arms Survey of 2007, and data on firearm-related deaths were acquired from the European detailed mortality database of the World Health Organization, as well as the National Center for Health Statistics.
