Abstract

Gully erosion processes occurring in a Quaternary volcanic landscape under a temperate subhumid seasonal climate are analyzed. It is postulated that gullying starts as a consequence of shallow mass-movements produced by non-concentrated throughflow, and that the fluvial, cyclic approach does not hold in this kind of landscape. The paper aims at formulating a conceptual model of gully initiation for the environments mentioned above.
