Abstract

Jacques GUILLEMEAU (1550–1612) published several books during his surgical life. He was a brilliant follower of Ambroise Paré and the surgeon of several kings of France. This late edition was a posthumous and complete one, published in the town of Rouen in 1649 by Jean VIRET and printed by Pierre MAILLE. It was an in folio with 863 pages and numerous figures: 32 copper plates = 21 anatomical ones and 11 plates of surgical instruments. There were also 18 wooden plates with foetus in utero and paediatric instruments. The exact title was “ Les oeuvres chirurgicales. Avec les portraicts et figures de toutes les parties du corps humain, & des instruments nécessaires au chirurgien...”. We studied particularly the anatomical part. The obstetrical and paediatrical parts were also famous. This abstract is from the Experimental Biology 2019 Meeting.
