Abstract

The AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) is a large consortium whose members perform clinical trials and other studies of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in the United States, sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and directed by NIAID's Division of AIDS (DAIDS). The ACTG has experienced enormous growth since its inception in 1986, with 47 separate units at 150 sites now operational and over 200 protocols completed or in progress.
