Abstract

Here in Auchendreich we strive to achieve that judiciously innovative excellence which characterises semirural Scottish medicine as a whole. For 106 years our Medico-Chirurgical Society has existed for just this purpose, and at its final meeting of the season last week we had a professor down from the university to bring us up to date on the new and exciting Scottish Multidisciplinary Universal Guidelines. The SMUG initiative, the professor explained, is now sweeping the country, bringing in its wake untold benefits to patients, health care staff, and our hard pressed NHS managers.
