Abstract

Prism-film couplers are used to couple light beams into and out of a 80 μm thick quartz slab. The pressure which is absolutely necessary to exert on the prisms in order to obtain a good coupling efficiency, induces important stresses in the anisotopic medium. Experimental results pointing out the perturbations in the propagation conditions thus involved, are reported here.
