Abstract

The high incidence of digitalis intoxication in patients with pulmonary, renal, hepatic or thyroid diseases points up the need for physicians to be especially careful when giving digitalis to these patients. Keeping in mind the many factors influencing the response to digitalis and regulating the dosage accordingly will go a long way toward preventing toxic effects. The danger of treating digitalis-induced arrhythmias with electric discharge is emphasized.
